Jill Simon

Based in Randwick, Sydney, watercolour artist Jill Simon creates expressive works that explore still life, people, and landscapes. Her paintings are built from translucent layers of colour, loose drawing, and intuitive mark-making, giving her subjects a sense of atmosphere and quiet narrative.

Jill’s practice has evolved from a lifelong engagement with drawing and design into a more exploratory, process-driven approach to watercolour. Rather than aiming for strict realism, she is interested in the emotional resonance of ordinary objects, familiar faces, and local landscapes. Her works often suggest moments of pause and reflection within everyday life.

Working primarily on paper, Jill begins with loose sketches and washes, allowing water and pigment to move freely before responding with more deliberate marks and details. This balance of control and spontaneity gives her paintings their characteristic softness and energy.

Jill exhibits annually as part of Waverley Woollahra Art School (WWAS) and continues to expand her practice through new series and commissions. She paints from her Randwick studio, drawing inspiration from the people, places, and small poetic details that surround her.
