Sue MacLeod-Beere

Painting

Sue is a Sydney based oil painter. Her work celebrates her joy of painting with many of her subjects being her home and locations around Sydney. She uses a loose approach keeping many of the first spontaneous brush marks. Using a vibrant palette and strong compositions she explores relationships between shape and colour creating focal points that invite viewers to engage with the work. Many works are plein air.

Her awards include the Glebe Art Prize (2025) for painting, Hunters Hill Art Prize (2020) and Nora Heysen Award twice (2016, 2012). A finalist in numerous art prizes including Mosman (2026, 2014), Gallipoli (2025, 2023, 2022, 2020), KAAF (2023), Lethbridge (2024) and Ravenswood (2020).

She attained a degree (hons) from Ravensbourne College of Art and Design, UK and won a John Olsen scholarship for Julian Ashton Art School, Sydney. Sue has a studio in One+2 Artist Studios, Lilyfield. Represented by Brenda Colahan Fine Art, Sydney and Edward Montgomery Fine Art, Carmel-by-the-Sea, USA.
