Andrew Gurman
Andrew Gurman is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice moves through abstraction, gesture and poetic intuition. His paintings explore intimacy, memory, grief, longing and the quiet thresholds where inner experience begins to take form.
Working with layered washes, open marks, veiled colour and areas of luminous intensity, Gurman approaches painting as a process of listening rather than directing. Each work develops through responsiveness, allowing movement, feeling and image to emerge gradually without being forced into resolution.
His paintings often hold the trace of something half-remembered or still becoming: a bodily memory, an unfinished gesture, a moment of tenderness, absence or recognition. Rather than explaining experience, the work remains close to its mystery.
Through this process, the paintings become intimate fields of encounter—places where memory, eros, grief and love gather at the edges of form, where the personal and the universal meet, and where the boundaries between self, body and world begin to loosen.
